    Project Overview

A SMART on FHIR-enabled, secure, and configurable web application

In response to the alarming rates of maternal and neonatal mortality—the highest among developed countries—RiskLD delivers real-time clinical risk alerts and decision support. Built on SMART on FHIR, the system empowers providers, nurses, and quality teams to flag, monitor, and respond to critical risk factors directly within their Epic workflows.

    The Challange

  • U.S. maternal mortality reached 22.3 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2022.
  • Nearly two-thirds of maternal deaths occur postpartum, influenced by behavioral health and social determinants.
  • Hospitals lacked configurable, standards-compliant tools to standardize safety protocols across diverse populations and postpartum timelines.
  • Our Solution

We integrated RiskLD with Epic using OAuth2 and SMART on FHIR APIs to access patient data such as vitals, labs, and social risk indicators. A configurable rules engine processes this data to deliver clinical alerts in real time. The platform includes hospital-specific customization, audit logging, and analytics to ensure compliance and performance across multiple clinical sites.

    Features:
  • SMART on FHIR login for seamless Epic integration
  • Real-time, configurable rule engine for labor, delivery, and postpartum surveillance
  • Multi-tiered workflows for nurses, physicians, and administrators
  • UI components built in Vue.js for interactive dashboards
  • Reporting on severe obstetric complications
  • Admin portal for hospital-level customization
