    Project Overview

A powerful, speed-optimized WordPress solution running on Azure VM that delivers digital magazine content to ~23K beekeepers.

Bee Culture, owned by A.I. Root Candles, is the go-to publication for ~23,000 beekeepers. Their WordPress-based magazine was previously hosted on Azure App Service. Due to theme-specific PHP dependencies and inconsistent performance, we migrated the site to a dedicated Azure VM running Ubuntu 24.04. The move optimized PHP compatibility, boosted speed and uptime, and enhanced stability for publishing workflows and subscriber access.

    The Challange

  • The existing theme required a PHP version or configuration not supported on App Service.
  • Readers experienced inconsistent performance and occasional downtime.
  • Digital magazine workflows—including uploads, navigation, and subscriptions—were sluggish under load.
  • Our Solution

We recommended and executed a migration to an Azure VM (Ubuntu 24.04), giving us full control over the PHP stack. This allowed us to:

    • Install and configure the exact PHP version for the theme
    • Optimize the database, file access, and caching layers
    • Implement CDN and page caching for fast content delivery
    • Migrate site files and database, fully test in staging, then switch DNS
    • Establish round‑the‑clock monitoring and backups
    Features:
  • Full support for legacy or specialized PHP theme requirements
  • High‑performance Apache + PHP‑FPM stack
  • Caching (object/opcode) and CDN integration
  • Seamless publishing workflow for editors and subscribers
  • Secure environment with SSL, firewall, and backups
