LaunchPad Quest: Engaging Library Kiosks for Kids

- COSU Android Launcher for 22" Touchscreens
- Admin Control Panel & Setup Wizard
- Remote Analytics Integration
- Android Development
- UX/UI Design & Prototyping
- Discovery Workshops
- Android Management API (AMAPI)
- Kotlin & Jetpack Compose
- Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics
- Google Cloud Platform
Project Overview
Playaway Products needed a turnkey, locked-down Android experience for young patrons in libraries and schools. After a focused Discovery Sprint, MorelandConnect designed LaunchPad Quest—an engaging, corporate-owned single-use (COSU) launcher optimized for 22" touchscreens. It empowers ages 3–12 to independently explore safe games and videos while giving librarians real-time management and usage insights.
The Challange
- No simple, tamper-proof kiosk that could attract and guide pre-readers.
- Lack of centralized, zero-touch device management and scalable analytics.
- Off-the-shelf launchers missed granular age filters and a child-first UX.
Our Solution
We delivered a polished Android launcher running in Device Owner kiosk mode with a secure, passcode-protected setup wizard. A companion control panel enables branding, Wi‑Fi setup, session timeouts, and policy updates. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (via AMAPI) provide real-time dashboards on session length, crash-free uptime, and content popularity—reducing IT burden and speeding rollout.
Features:
- Animated attraction mode with single-tap “Start”
- Big-button, picture-based navigation for Games, Videos, Books, Creativity
- Secure admin passcode, device-owner lockdown, and auto-reset flows

The Impact
Within weeks, librarians deployed LaunchPad Quest across 50+ tablets with no manual re-enrollments or tampering. Engagement rose 60% versus legacy kiosks, and usage data now guides content curation by age group. With less device babysitting, staff can refocus on programming and outreach. District-wide deployments are planned, with custom MDM integration under exploration to scale beyond the pilot.
LaunchPad Quest transformed our library kiosks overnight. Kids dive right in, librarians love the hands-off management, and parents feel safe. MorelandConnect delivered on every promise—and then some.
